Module 11

I chose the videos The Mystical North: Spanish Art from the 19th Century to the Present & Dada and Surrealism. I chose the first one because since my culture is Hispanic I found it interesting and wanted to learn more about Spanish art since this is my background. I then randomly selected Dada and Surrealism. The key concepts I learned in the first video was about using dark colors to portray dark, gloomy images. In the second video I learned about artists using their artwork to get messages across and to demonstrate lessons. These videos relate to the readings because they describe the concepts learned in the video and describe them in a deeper meaning. Overall I liked the videos but after a while they became boring. They did not keep me as entertained as previous videos.

Module 10 Mask creation

Attached above are the inspirations of my desired mask. These masks are called the "Diablo Cojuelo" masks. These masks are a tradition in the Dominican Republic and are used during the time of carnival. Carnival begins around February for Dominican independence, and could go throughout Holy week in in Easter. I have been inspired to create my own version of a Diablo Cojuelo just in time for the Easter holiday. Below is my sketch of what I want my mask to look like. Here is the finalized version of my mask:

Hand Drawing

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing? It was very interesting to use my hand as the subject matter for this drawing. I was not sure if my drawing would end up looking like my hands but it was fun to add the small details of my fingers to the drawings. 2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why? I chose to use a pencil just because it would be less messier than using charcoal.  3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand? It was weird to use my dominant hand, it began to bother me just because it took longer than it did when using my dominant hand, but it was interesting to see the outcome and how it did not came out as bad as I predicted it to come out.  4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies? I think my final drawings are successful. I had predicted them to come out not looking like my hands but I feel like they look very much just like hands to me.  5. W

Module 9 video posts

I chose the two videos “The Power of Art: Caravaggio” and “Velazquez” once again at random selection to review them and answer the questions needed. In the first video the key concept that was learned was that the context of Caravaggio's are was different, and as a person he was a heavy drinker. Labeled as a drunk. he practiced the religion of christianity, and his art work reflected the religion in a very disturbing way. In the second video, I learned that Velazquez was an artist for a lifetime because of his involvement with King Phillip the fourth. In the text it was explained that Caravaggio was apart of the Baroque period. Velazquez and Caravaggio was also compared to each other, and their art work were also compared to one another. In my opinion these two videos were very entertaining to watch, they did not bore me and I learned a lot about each artist in each of the films.

Module 8

From the list of videos I chose "The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure" just because I had watched the first few minutes of it and it interested me.  In "More Human Than Human" I learned about animals and how they have attractions to specific things. Also in humans certain parts of the body are emphasized. For example on women the breasts are usually bigger. This could mean that those body parts of the most important ones on the body of a female. Overall, these films were interesting to watch and it was cool to compare them to each other to notices their similarities, and differences

Modules 7's video reviews

In the prairie school clip, one of the key concepts that I learned was about architecture becoming a style. This was something that became natural to society, and this is what made it a style. In the second video architecture as art it was described that architecture was something that becomes a language that flourishes more and more as time goes on. This means that it becomes something that is used in the everyday life. The videos relate to the readings in the text because in the text the history of architecture and how the structures of buildings, and designing came about. In my opinions I think these films were very informative and they were able to explain to viewers more in-depth about architecture, and the background behind it. I loved it because construction interests me so I love learning more about those things. I chose the films that I watched by random selection. I didn’t know what exactly they would be about but I am glad I picked the ones that I did because t
